Privacy Policy — RoostVillage browser extension

Effective July 18, 2026

The RoostVillage extension adds public-record information (registered-offender locations and nearby-school data) to real-estate listings on Zillow, Redfin, and Realtor.com. This policy explains exactly what the extension does and does not do with data. In plain terms: it looks up public records for the home you're viewing, and it does not track you or collect anything about you.

What the extension accesses

The address and map coordinates of the listing you are currently viewing. When you open a home's page on a supported site, the extension reads that home's street address and/or latitude & longitude from the page so it can look up public records for that location.

What it sends, and why

To retrieve the information it shows, the extension sends only the listing's address and/or coordinates to the RoostVillage server (colossus.humancompute.com). The server returns public-record data for that location: the count and map positions of registered offenders from official state registries, and nearby-school ratings derived from public U.S. Department of Education data. This request is anonymous — it contains the property location and nothing that identifies you.

What it does NOT do

Local storage on your device

The extension uses your browser's local storage on your device for two things: to remember whether the info panel is open or collapsed, and to briefly cache the public-record results (nearby-school and registered-offender info) for homes you've already viewed, so they appear instantly if you return to the same listing. All of this stays on your device and is never sent anywhere.

Our web pages and advertising

When you click through to a page on roostvillage.com (for example, the offender map for a home), those web pages may display advertising served by Google AdSense. Google may use cookies to serve and measure ads in accordance with Google's advertising policies. This applies to the website pages, not to the extension itself, which contains no ads or trackers.

Data sources

Offender data comes from official state sex-offender registries and the U.S. Department of Justice's public registry (NSOPW). School data comes from the U.S. Department of Education (NCES / EDFacts). RoostVillage is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Zillow, Redfin, Realtor.com, or GreatSchools.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date above, and — where the change affects how data is handled — disclose it prominently.
